GTC International was engaged to design, install and commission a 4.5MWe standby power plant for a large scale retail distribution warehouse complex. This project was designed using six caterpillar C27 (750MWe) diesel generator sets. System reliability and redundancy were the driving issues of the integrated generation design. The use of a complex engine control and transfer system provided the facility with a less than 10 second response time from startup to generation. Bumpless retransfer to utility is accomplished through closed transition synchronizing transfer switches. This closed transition design also allows for bumpless transfer of building load to and from the generating system during testing as required to comply with CSA 282-05 standards for life safety installed generating systems. This plant provides for the entire electrical needs of the distribution center.
