GTC International through its automation division provided a controls retrofit to two 7MW gas turbine compressor sets located at two LNG storage facilities in the state of Georgia. The original controls were completely replaced with a state of the art PLC based control utilizing new digital fuel metering valves and vibration monitoring. System reliability was dramatically increased through this new technology. The project included the development of a new set of control algorithms for the speed and temperature governing of these engines. Prior to the GTC/PECC retrofit, the company was plagued with engine startup and run reliability problems. GTC personnel installed a new fuel delivery system including a digital fuel-metering valve. Control was developed using GE PLC hardware and Cimplicity HMI graphics package. GTC provided additional support of the system via remote data-link from its Newmarket, Ontario offices.
